PSV Glass & Glazing chose to nurture growth and improve efficiencies with NetSuite

PSV Glass & Glazing is the leading specialist glass distribution and installation company in the United Kingdom and Ireland, suppling replacement glazing for all bus, coach, rail, and mobile home applications. The company was founded in 1987 in High Wycombe, England, where it is still based, and today incorporates four brands: PSV Glass, Bus & Coach Glazing, 1st Glass and Coach Glazing Services.

PSV Glass & Glazing were using a custom system that had been created to manage their complex database and linkage between products, services, and vehicles. This system was causing errors and failing more regularly, meaning service levels and profitability were being directly impacted. In order to scale and cope with their growth, improve efficiencies, and improve customer experience, the company decided to look for a new business system.

NetSuite – A future-proof and agile platform

After looking at multiple platforms, PSV Glass & Glazing narrowed the decision regarding their new business system to Microsoft and NetSuite, ultimately deciding on NetSuite.

After a detailed process and detailed demonstration days, including any essential third-party products, we saw clearly that NetSuite added the future proofing and agility our business required.

Being one product as we grow and easier configuration to cope with dynamic changes it made it the obvious choice and one we do not regret. Value to implement was also far stronger, but not the core driver.

The fact that NetSuite is a purely cloud based system also played an important part in the decision process, along with the system being strong in areas such as multi-site distribution, managing over 16,000 SKUs for warehouses, pick and load, and logistical planning.

Choosing the right implementation and support structure

After deciding on NetSuite, the next step was to find an implementation partner to supply and implement the system. While they originally implemented NetSuite with a different partner, PSV Glass & Glazing eventually crossed paths with David Atherton and his team, who today make up Staria’s UK team. They were impressed by the team and the increased value they saw across their solutions as a result of the collaboration, and decided to keep working with them to manage ongoing optimisations across their solutions landscape.

Naturally, choosing the right implementation partner is as important in many ways as the software, although you can always change partners/suppliers if you need to. Key people are what really make the difference, rather than the overall business in many ways.

In terms of things that they could have done differently in their original NetSuite implementation, Phil Powell also shares the following insights:

We would have insisted on documentation from our original implementation partner and ensured more robust controls and testing of deployments. We have that now and have removed the pain of failed deployments. In hindsight, we internally should have also listened to advice given on some requested customisations to not try and over customise certain processes. We have reverted these now and continue to focus on added value optimisation and tool addition.

Going forward, PSV Glass & Glazing are planning to innovate further with NetSuite and extend their use for it for Field Service, as well as further extending the company toolset to include a planning tool for their complex purchasing planning and landscape. For this tool, they are looking at Staria's BI and Planning solution Naviloq.
